Management
Having built teams for startups and larger organizations, I have had experience in most aspects of project and team management. Having helped found the company, and lead technical development as VP of Engineering at Agilence, a video transaction auditing and data mining / BI solutions startup, I designed and developed the video architecture, managed HW production, lead Windows software development scrum teams, off shore resources, and helped define technical content as part of the product definition with clients. Later, as an independent consultant, I was required to define my own projects: sales, statement of work, contracts, accounting, deliverables, budgeting, timeline, and testing. That experience helped give me appreciation and practice with running a small business, managing expectations, external resources, and deliverables. As Senior Director of Electrical Engineering at Bressler Group, directly reporting to the owners, I defined the the department from inception; hired all engineers / software developers, budgeted for the department, designed and procured labs and test equipment, set up development tools, revision management, process and testing, acted as technical oversight, business development and marketing for the discipline. I presided over the department from 1 employee to 18 over 6 years of continuous growth, earning recognition from vendors, and in awards at CES and IDEA.
Mentoring
Teaching has been a part of my work since early on. I started with Business Data Group doing installation and customer training on the Linux-based product. Later, helping as a teaching assistant at Drexel University leading labs, and doing lectures for classes on microcontrollers, and object oriented programming. Helping kids with STEM education doing volunteer work for FIRST robotics competitions as a judge and team mentor for 10 years also helped gain perspective on explaining technical concepts concisely in approachable terms. At Bresslergroup, I mentored junior engineers, co-ops and their ongoing development. Lately assisting at University of Pennsylvania as an ongoing consultant to the Integrated Design Program, and teaching an undergraduate ESE class in embedded systems as adjunct faculty.
Business Development
Having been an independent consultant or working in a startup for most of my career, I have spent a lot of time in customer facing roles. Because of the need to have multiple roles in small organizations, I developed skills in marketing, sales, and project definition. As part of Bressler Group, I was the primary point of contact in the sales and business development process; travel, producing presentations, project plans, quotations and helping close sales to 350k / month.
